At the beginning of 1915, 3rd Division were holding a section of the line south of Ypres. When not in the line, the 4th Royal Fusiliers battalion of 9 Brigade, were in billets in Locre (Loker). They were in these billets on 15th January when Elton Hampsheir died but as yet we have no information as to the circumstances of his death. However, that he is commemorated on the Menin Gate memorial to the missing suggests that he was killed in action.
